About Us Since 1988, Animal House has been a family owned Pet Store and Animal Grooming business serving the residents in Atlantic County. Over the years, Animal House has grown with the community, offering products and services requested by our loyal customer base. In June of 2006 the founding owner sold the business to one of his loyal customers’, Vicki Phillips, who has continued to manage and expand the business, keeping the original founding principles in mind.
In 2010 Marissa Flatley, began as Store Manager. Before taking on the Manger role, she earned her B.S. degree in Animal Health Sciences and worked for many years at Absecon Veterinarian. She was no stranger to Animal House, since she had worked part time with us for many years. Marissa has a wealth of knowledge from her years of working alongside an extraordinary group of skilled and dedicated Veterinarians.
All of our retail staff live in our local communities and are pet owners themselves. They all have a deep love for animals and are eager to learn and then share their knowledge about pet care with you.
Our knowledgeable grooming staff has over 30 combined years of experience. They are dedicated to working with our customers to help each pet learn to love their special spa time. We are all committed to teaching each owner how to maintain their pet’s coat in between each grooming.
What Makes Us Different? People can call us or stop by and we will talk to them about their health goals for their pets. Then we can recommend a variety of different foods that would work for their pets. If we don't carry what they choose, we'll bring it in and stock it just for them. We really spend time with our customers and all strive to develop personal relationships that continue through the years. People bring their newly acquired pets in and we get to know them. As the years pass, we see them develop and change, and help their parents with any problems that may arise.
Challenges We Face The pet food industry can be very confusing to our customers. There is a huge lack of transparency, even refusals by some companies to divulge who manufactures their foods. Companies are not required to divulge the quality of their proteins nor are they allowed to brag about them if they use fabulous quality proteins. It's frustrating when huge companies spend unbelievable amounts of money marketing their products and almost no money on ingredient quality. It makes it more of a challenge to convince people that just because they saw their pet’s food advertised on TV or in a magazine it does not mean it's good for their pets!
We Support Local Rescues: Dogs, Cats, Birds & Reptiles We are committed to helping each and every customer find and maintain a healthy pet that fits in their lifestyle. We do not believe that any pet should be an impulse, just because they look cute. That is why hundreds of thousands of animals end up homeless ever year. We will be glad to discuss any breed dog or cat and help you locate a breed specific rescue or reputable breeder who has the needed health certificates. If you are looking for a specific bird, small animal or reptile come in and talk to our knowledgeable staff. Look at what we have in the store. We will help you and your child learn about each type of pet and their specific care requirements. Then we will make sure they get a healthy pet of their own! We work with local shelters, Hi Arbor Cares, HALT small animal rescue, Cape Atlantic Cats, and Absecon Veterinarians.
We Are Dedicated to: Offering a full line of quality pet food and supplies; Taking the time to educate you about your pets’ needs; Providing professional grooming services.
